Doing your part to protect the planet doesn’t have to be painful or time-consuming. Here are a few things you can start doing to help out the Earth today, and every day.
Today is Earth Day and, as such, we thought it only fitting to share a few tips on how to help protect this lovely planet we call our home! Doing your part to protect the planet doesn’t have to be painful or time-consuming. Here are a few things you can start doing to help out the Earth today, and every day.
Unplug chargers when not in use
Did you know that many chargers continue to draw power when they are plugged in, even if they aren’t connected to your phones, laptops and other devices? One super easy way to save energy is to unplug chargers when you’re not using them. Mother Earth will thank you (and it may help lower your power costs as well)!
Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth
The average American uses over 130 gallons of water per day – pretty crazy, eh? A shower uses two to five gallons of water per minute and a full bathtub holds about 36 gallons of water. You can save a lot of water over the course of a year by taking simple steps like turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth, or turning down the water pressure when you’re soaping up in the shower.
Check out this fun Water Use Calculator to get an estimate of how much water you use on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis and think about what you can do to cut back.
Recycling is a super simple way to help the environment and save energy. Did you know that recycling a single aluminum can can save enough energy to run your television for 2 hours or your computer for 3 hours? Today, most places you go have separate bins for trash and recycling. Make a conscious effort to recycle when possible and do your part to make a difference.
Leave your car at home
It’s easy to become reliant on your car – after all, cars are super convenient. But think twice the next time you hop in your car to drive somewhere that you could easily walk to. Additionally, carpooling to work or taking public transportation can save big on carbon emissions. Even if it’s just once a week, you’ll be cutting down on work-related carbon emissions 20 percent over the course of a full year!
Get out and enjoy nature!
Finally, the simple act of getting outside and enjoying nature can make you more conscious about the world around us and inspire you to do more to beautify the Earth and help the environment.
